“In my preface to the first volume, 1881-1910, I explained thoroughly the thinking behind this composite project, the tactics that I deemed most effective for this quaint “history” of Trikala and its broader regions and the particular difficulties I encountered. […]

The second volume, like the first, is based on data drawn from the newspapers of the period and investigates the same basic fields: politics, social life, the economy and culture.

The sketch of Trikala society continues, highlighting its special features, including the changes brought by the liberation of Thessaly (1881) and up to the present day (1996).

In contrast to the first volume, in which I had used reports in Athenian and Thessalian newspapers, the second volume was mainly based on the two local newspapers Anagennisis (Rebirth) and Tharros (Courage). “Upon publication of the present volume, my goal has been achieved of writing the chronicle of the city of Trikala and the broader region from 1881 to 1960 with data drawn from the newspapers of the period […],” (Prologue, Vol. III, p. 11).
