When eighty years had passed since the newspaper Ergatis (Worker) first came out in Volos in December of 1907, I felt the need to present it for two reasons. The first is that this newspaper was especially important, not only in local terms, but for the country as a whole, because it constituted a special pioneering expression of militant quests. The visionaries of Ergatis and, a year later, of the Volos Labour Centre that was established in December 1908, surely provided the nucleus of movements that were progressive for both their time and ours. We are talking about a labour-trade union movement, a socialist movement, a demoticist movement. […]

The second reason is that Ergatis did not become known to later generations. Not even to historians and specialist researchers, perhaps because they could not find sufficient copies […]”. (Introduction, p. 7)
