“The object of this study is to gather and present, in a critical spirit, as many copies as have been preserved, of the approximately 500 newspapers published in Thessaloniki up to 1987. […]”

This study is not – and should not be regarded as – a History of the Press, in the broader sense of the term, i.e. with the search for causes, or criticism of the newspapers’ work, of their publishers and the journalists who worked on them. It is simply a presentation of the newspapers of Thessaloniki, with the mainly superficial problems they dealt with and their struggles, not only to survive as publishing companies, but also for the advancement of this city”. (Preface, Vol. I, p. 11-12)
