[…] I remain with the certainty that [this study] can be useful in studying many manifestations of life on our island. This is why from every printed or handwritten page – alongside the data that constitute its formal history – I also provide such reports (incidents, events, news, etc.) that may stimulate thoughts, or provide useful additional facts for the future researcher or reader.

I did not of course compile any indexes, since it would have meant digressing from the purpose of my work. I have attempted just one elementary revelation of those incidents and events that, in my opinion, have special significance, placing emphasis to social and cultural matters.

I have recorded in chronological order the newspapers of Levkas (Levkada) that have circulated on the island from the early 19th century to the present, 1987. There will certainly be some gaps in this search of mine, which are due on the one hand to the innate difficulties of such research, and on the other to the scanty material I had at my disposal. No “corpuses” of newspapers have been preserved, not even all those that circulated can be found. Of most, very few issues have survived, of others, there may be just one, and of yet others, not even one, only their title has remained!

I have noted almost everywhere how many issues have been preserved and where they can be found, with the exception of cases that I haven’t located. In this study, 130 newspapers and 10 magazines are recorded.
