Content Description (long):

“The research carried out in the archives of the Ottoman State by Dr Ali Arslan, Professor at Istanbul University, assesses for the first time and on the basis of official data, the role played by the Greek-language press in the evolution of journalism, but also of the mass media, and typography in the Ottoman Empire. Dozens of newspapers and a good many periodicals provide the picture. It should be noted in particular, as the Turkish author admits in his prologue, that the Greeks living in the Ottoman Empire in that period exerted a strong influence on the Turkish Press, whereas in certain fields, such as e.g. satire, they were pioneers”.
